We had a grat time touring Guatemala. I think all of our favorite places were Tikal and a wonderful jungle hide out called Cas Perico. AFTER tIKAL WE WENT TO a SMALL town close to flores for an ecological spanish emersion school for 3 days. We wanted to learn more about the tropical rain forest and the impact of deforestations. ONE DAY WE WENT ON A TOUR OF AN ORGANIC FARM. in EL SALvador we have seen a lot of fincas, farms. this one was different in that they had rubber trees and chicla trees which are used to make chiclet gum.. It was very interesting. Another day we went to a animal rehab station called arces. We got to hold baby monkeys and play with them.
We met the Chays in Antigua and did lots of buying of tourist trinkets and things for the markets in the summer. From Antigua we took our very own coaster bus with the Chays to our favorite body surfing beach in El Salvador. Marcela´s mom and dad made arrangements for us to stay at their bank clubs beach resort. IT WAS AMAZING FOR $20 A NIGHT WE HAD A ROOM OUR OWN PRIVATE POOLS AS NO one was ther during the week and camarone platos, Shrimp dinners for $3 a plate. What fun it was teaching Maya and Freya to body surf. they got to be really good at it.
Next we brought them Back to San Pedro to show off our little town. It was delightful to have them in our home here.
We are back into the swing of school, soccer and living in SAN pEDRO. wE pLAN TO LEAVE ON February 5 or 6 for Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. We hope to be back here for 6 to eight weeks in March and April before returning on April 28th.
For me Traveling is fun and exciting but very tiring. Treava is a trooper but all the changes are hard for her and she gets the mamitis --wanting mama only all the time. Then to find food, lodging and tour, whew. I like my tranquil life in San Pedro.
The other day though my Tranquility was interrrupted by screaming children in the back patio. When I went to see what the problem was, I discovered the maccaw from next door had landed in the coutyard. As I tried to step out to put it on a stick and return it to it´s home it attacked me and bit me on the leg. I jumped back, totally stunned only to look the bird in the eye and have it laugh at me the most hidious --I got you didñ´t I--laugh. I don´t know if I was shocked, scared or humiliated as the kids and all their fiend, 8 of them laughed even louder. I wasn´t quite sure what to do as our dog, muneca was attacking the bird and it was getting more aggressive. Possibly let muneca eat the laughing macaw. Well finally i regained my courage with a very long and big stick and was able to get it on the stick and fling the bird back to it´s rightful home. It laughed at me again and flew back into the patio. I was stunned. What bird in it´s rightful mind would come back for more of muneca and I. Then I figured out he liked all the attention and laughing from the kids. Luckily I was saved by Mari the next door neighbor who came to retrieve her bird. She though had her hands full with her 2 year old. So I being the brave soul I am offered to carry the stick with the bird on it home for her. The bird though started to crawl down the stick toward my hand and was position in a killer attck position for my hand. I dropped the stick and the bird, muneca grabbed two beautiful green tail feathers, and the bird flew and I ducked and screamed. From there I´m not sure how but Mari got the bird home. Now Every morning I awaked to hear it laughing at me.
So the next time you see a maccaw remember they will mock you. Lisa
